Liz Gifford

Liz Gifford has over 30 years’ experience of education and training, both policy and practice. She is a skilled builder of partnerships, broker of relationships and leader and manager of projects. Liz has developed expertise in identifying opportunities to link learning with local and regional economic development.

A graduate of Aberdeen and Nottingham Universities, Liz held a number of teaching posts in secondary schools, including two headships. She contributed to the development of local management of schools and in 2003 completed an entirely research based M Phil on secondary headship in the devolved context. In 2004 Liz moved into consultancy and developed a business delivering projects connected with skills and employment.

That work has involved:

  • Looking for needs and possibilities
  • Following up with research
  • Identifying key players
  • Brokering strategic relationships
  • Describing potential projects
  • Seeking agreement and securing results

Achievements include:

  • Brokerage, leadership and management of long lasting collaborative partnerships
  • Interpretation of national policy in the local and regional context which enabled partners to identify opportunities
  • Establishment of a providers’ partnership that produced an innovative and effective approach to regeneration through learning and into employment which is still used
  • Involvement of a wide range of individuals and organisations in consultations
  • Production of in-depth research reports completed on time and on budget
  • Staging of well attended and fruitful events of varying scale, ranging from professional development evenings to local stakeholder events to a major economic summit in 2008 attended by over 100 businesses and key players
